Start

Individual start at Särna campground with 2 minutes time difference. For the 300 kilometres teams the time difference will be equalized in connection with the mandatory rest – first team to cross the finish line is the winner! For the 160 kilometres the time difference will be equalized at checkpoint Lofsdalen – first team to cross the finish line is the winner!

Map is not included in the starting fee. The map is available for you to buy upon your registration. A clearly trail description and a map can be found on the website.

Trail markings

The major part of the trail goes on regular snowmobile trails with red cross markings. The trail will be completed, according to regulations, with a sufficient number of signs with reflections and warning signs where the trail crosses a road.

Checkpoints

Along the trail are a number of checkpoints where you have access to water and straw and the possibility to leave an injured or sick dog.

Veterinarian examination

Veterinary examination is on Sunday the 7th of March and on Monday the 8th of March at Särna campground. Teams starting on Monday have first priority to veterinarian inspection on Sunday. Upon your registration at the secretariat you have to report when you are ready for veterinary examination. All competitors have to fill in a team list of all dogs starting. You must have the team list ready prior to your registration. You can download the team list here.

Please bring the registration certificate (in original), vaccination certificate and the special doglistform for the veterinary.

Equipment inspection (link)

The equipment inspection is at Särna campground on Sunday the 7th of March and on Monday the 8th of March. The teams starting on Monday have first priority to equipment inspection on Sunday. The equipment inspection is done by the race judge. The equipment inspection has to be completed before the mushers meeting begins.

Mushers pass

All Swedish mushers have to have “competition license”/insurance and Swedish mushers pass (“Green Card”). All non-Swedish competitors must have a “musher’s pass” or an insurance. This is subject for control at registration.

Application form for working test

All competitors must fill in the form and have it ready at the registration. You can download the form here. All information in the form must be correct and complete for all dogs in the team. For non-Swedish registered dogs clear and readable copies of each dog’s pedigree/registration certificate have to follow the application form.

Safety

Every checkpoint has a snowmobile stationed. If a team takes too much time between two checkpoints (~24 h) or if an accident is reported a snowmobile team will be sent out to search and help. The musher is responsible to bring a tired or injured dog in a safe and secure way in the sledge to the nearest checkpoint.

For competitors in pulka style, a tired or injured dog if possible have to be transported to the nearest checkpoint, road crossing or another suitable place given by the race committee. Ventilation in the sledge bag is not required. The organizer is responsible to bring a dismissed dog from a pulka team to the nearest checkpoint. All dismissed dogs have to be picked up at the checkpoints as soon as possible by the musher’s dog handler.

Along the trail there are several places without connection for mobile phones.

Accomodation and parking (link)

Start, finish and parking area for both cars and dogs are at Särna campground and the surroundings. Accommodation is booked by the competitors themselves either in small cottages at Särna campground or somewhere else around Särna.

Start breakfast and banquet

Breakfast before the start and the banquet at Friday night is included in the starting fee. Breakfast is served from 06.30 on Monday the 8th of March and the same time on Tuesday the 9th of March. The banquet will be held on Friday the 12th of March at 18.00. All competitors will automatically be registered for the banquet. Handlers, families and other interested are also very welcome at the banquet. Registration and payment is made at the secretariat at Särna campground.
